A favourite with locals, travelling by bike is a great way to explore the city. Not only is it environmentally friendly, it is also economical and gives you the freedom to travel where you like, when you like. As over 40% of all Copenhageners use a bicycle on a daily basis, the road system has been transformed in to a bicycle friendly area with wide dedicated cycle lanes. To hire a bike, simply go to Tivoli Park or the Port, where you can find special free public city bikes, simply insert 20kr into the machine and the bike is yours to use for the day, providing you stay within the marked zones. When you are finished return the bike, and you will get your money back.

Several bus companies run frequent and economical services both throughout the city centre, to other parts of the country and to the neighbouring country of Germany. There is no dedicated bus station, however most services stop outside of Central Train Station, although check your ticket in advance for details. Copenhagen has its very own metro line, which operates services through the city centre. There is no actual set timetable, however trains run every 4 minutes, and even operate through the night every 15 minutes. Unlike the London Underground system all trains are unmanned, so be careful when boarding as doors will shut at a set time. Tickets are purchased on a zone basis, which allow you unlimited travel throughout the city, providing you stay within the zones specified on your ticket. A travel card can also be purchased, which will save you money if you plan on using the metro system frequently over several days.
top ↑Taxi

Taxi’s provide a comfortable way to travel through the city, however they do come at a price. It is perfectly legal to hail a cab in the street, just ensure that they are registered. Alternatively there are several large taxi stands in the city centre, or you can pre-order a cab to any destination from a special dedicated taxi phone line.
top ↑Train

The train system has recently been modernized, and travelling on the trains is a comfortable and convenient way to get around. All of the cities trains depart from Copenhagen Central Station, which is the largest station in Denmark. From here it is possible to connect to all major cities in Denmark, and while services to Europe are less frequent, it is still possible to travel to Hamburg, Berlin, Munich and Amsterdam. Tickets can be purchased from the train station prior to you departure, or for long-distance trains it is recommended to book in advance to ensure availability on the route you require.
