Acadian Lines also provide transfer to the greater Halifax area from the airport but not into Halifax itself.

With so much to see in the greater Halifax area, and good public transport limited to downtown, there is no better way to get around than by car. Hiring a car is straightforward in the city and there are many internationally known companies as well as local car hire firms to choose from. Most companies will only accept renters aged 25 and over, although some will charge an extra fee for those aged 21-24.

With heavy traffic on the roads the best way to reach Dartmouth from Halifax is by Harbour Ferry. Two historical routes carry passengers across the Halifax Harbour and as well as being popular with commuters, the ferries give visitors the opportunity to take in the impressive cityscape from the water.

The downtown area of Halifax is easily explored on foot and is a great way to take in the scenery at your own pace. Due to the size of the Greater Halifax area it would be impossible to see it all by walking!
top ↑Taxi

There are a large number of taxi companies in Halifax and the surrounding areas that can be pre-booked, hailed in the street or found at one of the taxi ranks which are usually located near hotels and shopping centres.
top ↑Tickets

For the regular bus services and ferries a flat fare of $2.25 applies, these cash tickets are valid for one trip and can be bought from the driver; however exact change is necessary as no cash is carried. Ten-trip tickets and metro-passes (valid for one month and providing unlimited transport on the regular buses and ferries) can be bought from Metro Transit retail outlets around the city. Tickets for MetroX and MetroLink are more expensive at $3.25 and $2.75 respectively. A combination of tickets can be bought and if transferring between the regular services a free transfer pass, valid for 90 minutes, must be obtained.
