Airport Transfers

Airport Transfers

Helsinki is served by two airports: Helsinki-Vantaa Airport and Malmi airport. The largest of the two, Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL) is located 19km north of the centre and it offers flights to many European destinations. The public bus 615 operates services to and from the city centre every 15 minutes, and costs €4. Finn-air also operates a slightly more comfortable bus service which departs every 45 minutes, and costs €5.80.

Boat

Frequent boat services operate from the major ports of Länsisatama (West harbour) and Eteläsatama (South harbour). They allow for passenger and vehicle transport to Tallinn and Stockholm. There are also several day cruises particularly in the summer months, which allow visitors to view the stunning coastline of Helsinki. Tickets can be purchased online in advanced, or from the port terminal itself.

Bus

The main bus terminal is located in the Kaampi centre, which is within walking distance from the main Helsinki Central Railway Station. Buses are comfortable and economical and travel to numerous destinations thorough Finland. Bus tickets can be brought from the bus driver, in advance from the central bus station, or via a SMS service.

Metro

A well developed subway system operates in Helsinki and is run by Helsinki city transport (HKL). It has undergone much refurbishment and expansion, and now covers 17 stations over 21km of track. Tickets can be brought from booths inside the station, or by a special SMS system. If you are planning on using the metro frequently it may be advisable to purchase a special pass, which will give you a frequent travel card which allows travel at discounted rates.

Road

Helsinki has a well maintained system of road networks, which are clearly signposted for easy navigating. In Finland people drive on the left hand side of the road. There are several major ring-roads that surround the city and allow for easy access to Finland's major cities via the expressways. The highway 45 connects the city centre to the Helsinki Vantaa Airport.

Taxi

Taxi

Taxis in Helsinki are safe, comfortable and operated by professional drivers. There are many taxi stands dotted throughout the city centre, or a taxi can be hailed if it has the 'Taksi' light on, which indicates that it is available. A public taxi rank from outside the airport allows for quick transport to Helsinki city centre, and will cost between €30-€45. Most taxi's accept bank and credit cards as well as the traditional cash payments. Helsinki has a central taxi number which allows for the quick and convenient ordering of a taxi; to pre-order a taxi simply dial 0100 0700.

Train

Train

Helsinki's major central railway station, Rautatieasema, is located in the heart of the city. There are a total of 19 platforms, each of which provide trains to locations in Helsinki's metropolitan area, while long-distance trains are also in operation and connect Helsinki to Russia and Sweden.
