Castizo Fiesta

August is a month which is filled with many traditional and modern celebrations of all types, but the Castizo de Fiestas has to be the most popular summer fiesta of them all. The centre of the event takes place in the Church of La Paloma, however smaller events happen throughout the whole city.

Autumn Festival

The Autumn Festival, otherwise known as the Festival de Otoño de Madrid, is a month long event featuring famous European musicians, workshops, dance groups and circus performers.

Estampa Fair

This contemporary print and arts fair showcases unique lithographs, etchings and silkscreens from a whole host of talented exhibitors. The event is held at the IFEMA centre over four days in October.

The Three Kings

On the 5th of January hundreds of thousands of people line Spain’s streets to take part in the Three Kings Cavalcade. Madrid has one of the largest and most extravagant festivals in the whole country, which starts with a parade of brightly decorated floats, followed by ‘kings’ who throw sweets and gifts into the crowds.

Holy Week

The week running up to Lent sees people dress up in extravagant fancy dress outfits and take to the streets for several lively parades.

Semana Santa

Easter is marked by locals with a series of holy processions and celebrations. People carry stretcher-type constructions which honour Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary, while some choose to dress entirely in black and ask to be forgiven for their sins.

Flamenco Summit

The month of April is for all things Flamenco, with workshops and performances being held in different venues around the city.

Festimad

The enormous Festimad Festival is and alternative rock music event, which features famous bands, singers and musicians who play out to thousands of fans.

Fiesta de la Ermita de San Antonio de la Florida

An unusual tradition which sees one selected girl place 13 pins into the baptismal font, if one pin happens to stick to her finger then it means she will marry that year. Events take place in important churches in and around the city.

Fiesta de la Virgen del Carmen

Another traditional festival which is hugely celebrated by the Spanish is the Fiesta de la Virgen Carmen. The event features music, parades and dancing at several venues in the city.

The annual Jazz festival happens throughout the month of November, and sees Europe's most talented and respected jazz performers take to the stage. Events are located in various venues around the city.

New Year Eve

Most party goers celebrate the coming of the New Year by enjoying dinner in one of the cities exclusive restaurants, followed by a night long partying session. The most popular place to gather for the stroke of midnight is the Plaza Puerta del Sol, although it can get vary busy, so arrive early to secure a good spot.
