Airport Transfers

The Manchester International Airport is the largest airport outside of London, handling 18.7 million passengers annually. It is located 14km south-west of the city centre, and it is linked by the M56 motorway. It is possible to travel to the city centre from the airport by train, which takes about 20 minutes and costs approximately £3. Or you can jump in one of the cabs located in the taxi rank outside of the terminal building - the journey takes from 30 minutes to 45 minutes depending on the traffic, and it can cost from £30 - £40. Another way to access the city is via the John Lennon Airport, which is situated outside of Liverpool and can be reached by car in under 50 minutes.

Manchester's Chorlton Street coach Station is located near to Chinatown, in the city centre. National Express and Stage Coach run frequent services to the capital city of London, with an approximate journey time of 4 hours. Manchester operates a metro shuttle system which runs completely free services between three routes, which cover major areas of the city, including all the railway stations and most large car parking areas.

The city and its surrounding areas have a great modern road system, which makes it easy to get around. There are an abundance of taxi’s in and around the city centre, with prices for fares being considerably cheaper than in London. You can hail a taxi in the street, or hire one at a taxi rank to ensure that you are getting in a safe registered black cab.

There are two major train stations located in Manchester: Piccadilly in the south and Victoria in the north. Both offer local and long-distance train services, although Piccadilly is the busier of the two. A direct train to London Euston takes just 2 hours with Virgin Trains, while fares vary depending on the time of day you travel, to secure the best deals it is advisable to book online in advance. A new special ticket known as the ‘Rail Ranger’ has been introduced to the city, which allows unlimited travel between the city, Rochdale and Bolton, and all routes in between.

The efficient tram system is a great way to travel around the city and take in the sights. There are two lines in operation, which stop at most major locations in the city and run regularly - even through the night. Tickets can be purchased in automated machines outside of each tram stop.
