Manchester Cathedral
Perhaps one of the most stunning pieces of historical architecture in the city is the Manchester Cathedral, with its beautiful Gothic features. The church is open 7 days a week, but daily opening times vary depending on the time of year, so check in advance. It is located within walking distance of Victoria train station and entry is free of charge.

Ask anyone what they know about Manchester and they will probably reply with something about the world-famous Manchester United Football Club, or its home ground at the Old Trafford. The enormous stadium can hold up to 75,957 people, and it is the second largest in the country after Wembley. To fully experience the electric atmosphere visit a football match held at the stadium.

Throughout the year the MEN Arena sees hundreds of performances from some of the world’s most famous artists such as Lady Gaga, Jay Z and Madonna. The enormous indoor arena holds up to 23,000 people. It is easy to get to via the adjoining Victoria train station, or by the metrolink tram stop. Check the website for what’s on and ticketing information.

The comedy store comes with rave reviews from happy punters who have gone to watch a live comedy act at the venue. It is open from Wednesday - Sunday, and tickets start from just £8 depending on the night. You can buy a combined ticket, which includes dinner in the venue and tickets to the show. Afterwards you are free to enjoy drinks in the bar.

A visit to Manchester’s famous Chill Factore centre, will provide a fun and adventurous day out for all the family. At the centre it is possible to snowboard, ski, rock climb, even skydive - whatever the weather - as the entire complex is completely indoors. You can book lessons, hire equipment such as ski’s, or even bring your own stuff if you are a pro. Tickets can be purchased at the Chill Factore entrance, or you can book online. Non-skiers can watch on from the special viewing area, or enjoy hot drinks and tasty food in one of the many bars and restaurants.

Escape from the busy modern shopping complexes and travel back in time to the web of stalls at Bury Market. Here over 370 vendors sell discounted items, making it a great place to pick up some bargains. The area can be reached via the nearby tram stop followed by a short walk. The market is open every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday throughout the year.
