Airport Transfers

Milan’s Malpensa Airport is located 24 miles northwest of the city centre, and it is the busiest airport in the country, handling over 23 million passengers a year. Despite being located some distance away from the city, the airport has an extensive transportation system to and from the city centre. The Malpensa Bus Express operates frequent services to the city which take approximately 1 hour, depending on the traffic. Rail links are operated by Malpensa Express, and depart from the Milan Cardona railway station.

Bike

Most of Milan lies on flat land, so a nice way to discover the city is by bike. Milan has its own bicycle sharing system, which allows tourists and locals to rent a bike and return in to a different station in the city.

Bus

Buses operating in the city are clean, punctual and comfortable, and most services run until 2am in the morning. For long-distance routes the Eurolines bus company connects Milan to many other major European cities.

Car rental

The Milan Malpensa Airport is home to a number of top brand rental car companies, each of which have booths inside of the arrivals hall. If you want to secure you car, and get the best deal possible it is recommended that you book in advance, and your chosen car will be ready for pick-up when you arrive at the airport.

Metro

The efficient metro system operates on three lines to 72 stops throughout the city, with several new lines under construction. Trains operate on a frequent basis, every 1 - 3 minutes, from 6am in the morning until 2am, and tickets can be purchased from automated machines in the metro stations.

On foot

Walking is an excellent way to take in the sights of the city, particularly in the summer months. Areas such as the Corso Vittorio Emanuele and the Via Dante have been pedestrianized, and are nice areas to explore by foot.

Taxi

Taxis are a comfortable way to travel, although taxi rides come with hefty fares. It is illegal to hail a cab in the street, instead you must go to a designated taxi stand. Another option is to dial the national taxi number, however be warned - if you book a taxi by phone you will be charged from the moment the driver accepts the call.

Train

The main train station is the Milan Central Station, where are number of trains operate to other cities in the country such as Venice, Rome, Naples and Florence. While there are also several long-distance journey’s to other European cities such as Munich, Barcelona, Geneva, Vienna and Zagreb. Other important train stations in the city include the Cadorna Station and Garibaldi Station.
