Opened in December 2006 after extensive renovations Thingholt is located next to Reykjavik’s main shopping street, Laugavegur. The building has been converted into an exlusive first class hotel and is a great example of Icelandic contemporary design.The hotel is designed with a strong focus on raw quality inspired by Icelandic nature, aiming to give you modern conveniences in comfortable surroundings.

Thingholt is designed by an Icelandic female architect, Gulla Jonsdottir. Gulla is the owner of G+ Design in Los Angeles and has taken part in designing hotels in the US like Crescent Hotel in Beverly Hills and Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Gulla describes her design in CenterHotel Thingholt as ultra modern, yet classic, allowing natural materials and strong colours to take over.

The floors are made of leather tiles and the lobby walls are decorated with salmon-leather tiles. When entering the hotel there’s a long black lava textured wall, covered in dark glass masks representing the hidden people of Iceland and a small waterfall trickling down over them.

Hotel Thingholt offers an ideal location for exploring the historic center; shops, restaurants, cafés, bars, nightlife and all the main city center attractions can be found within easy walking distance.
