Church music festival
Passion weeks is a church music festival held over Easter every year in Stavanger. Founded in the early nineties, the festival is a celebration of Christ and includes musical recitals by the church choir, individual singers and orchestra performances. There are a number of other activities such as church services and walks.
Wine festival
For twelve years Stavanger has been host to a wine festival. Showcasing wines for all budgets from bargain wines to those more suited to fine dining; internationally renowned wines to new wines on the market, the festival attracts crowds from all over the world. Wine tastings are the main attraction but the festival culminates with a wine parade through the city centre.
Ice skating
In the heart of winter Stavanger residents wait with anticipation for the government to approve ice skating on the regions biggest lake, Stokkavannet. Only a few kilometres from Stavanger this is a popular activity for all the family to enjoy.

Mai:jazz
Mai:jazz is the oldest festival in Stavanger and has been held annually since 1989. The festival is a celebration of jazz music with performances at venues throughout the city. As well as local performers, top international artists also attend.
Deep sea fishing festival
Tananger a town to the west of Stavanger holds an annual deep sea fishing festival organised by Stavanger Deep Sea Fishing Club. Fishing is carried out over 3 days and there is around 15 hours of fishing undertaken. The competition is judged on a points system and to make conditions fair each competitor must use the three different boat sizes allowed for fishing.
Food festival
The biggest food festival in Norway, Gladmat has been held every July since 1999. Serving up a huge range of cuisines, visitors have the opportunity to sample favourite foods as well as experiment with new flavours. With so many food stalls offering tasty dishes there is the danger of overeating but you can let your stomach rest by going to watch the competitions for the chefs. With activities for children too, all the family will be catered for!
Bestkystfestivalen
Bestkystfestivalen, the juggling festival held in an old brewery in Stavanger is a fun and family friendly event. Offering extravagant performances and interactive workshops suitable for all ages, the festival usually runs over two days.
Gay Pride event
Like many other cities around the world Stavanger hosts its own Gay Pride event every September. Held in support of gay, lesbian and transgender people the festival promotes equal rights for all.
Museums exhibitions
The wettest month of the year, indoor activities are a must in October. This is the ideal time to experience the museums and other cultural experiences on offer.
