Trondheim - Getting Around
Airport Bus

There is a dedicated shuttle bus service that runs from Trondheim Airport, Værnes to Trondheim city centre. The buses leave the city centre station of Lerkendal up to every 20 minutes on weekdays and 30 minutes at the weekend. For arrivals at the airport the coaches are timed to flights, and should a flight be delayed the bus will wait. The trip covers 35km and there are several request stops along the route.
top ↑Bicycles

Trondheim has over 100 bikes available at ten locations around the city for residents and visitors. Annual passes can be bought for Kr 70 at the Tourist Information Office in the form of an electronic subscription card that is used to unlock the bike from its rack. Bikes must only be left locked to a designated rack; however they can be picked up and dropped off at different locations. The facility is available from 6am to 12 midnight daily from May to October.

The local bus service is run by Team Trafikk and they provide a comprehensive service throughout the city. Single tickets and tickets for 8 or 10 trips may be bought from the bus driver but daily and family passes can only be bought from the Team Client Centre or at Trondheim Central Station. A night bus service is provided on a Friday and Saturday night and runs from Downtown to a number of districts.

As well as finding all the main international companies, there are a range of local car hire firms for all budgets. Driving is done on the right hand side of the road and there are dedicated breakdown services in case of a breakdown or accident. Toll roads are used in Norway as a means to fund road works and the E6 motorway outside of Trondheim is one such road. The toll is graded with regard to the weight of the vehicle and is charged in both directions 24 hours a day, however there are alternative toll free routes. The rules of the road are strictly adhered to in Norway. There are frequent checks on speed and drivers blood alcohol levels and heavy fines are imposed for any infringement.

There are several taxi companies in Trondheim and most require pre-booking, however there are several taxi ranks located around the city operated by the two main firms. Fares are reasonable and a taxi transfer from the airport will cost upwards of Kr 300. As well as the standard four seat cabs, there are minibuses and buses available for hire for up to 50 passengers.

There is only one tram line in Trondheim running from St Olav’s Gate in central Trondheim, South West to Lian in Trondheim’s city park the Bymarka. During the 20 minute trip you can take in the sights of the old town before seeing the splendid view of the city. When in the Bymarka there are a number of hiking routes both moderate and advanced that offer a taste of the Norwegian countryside.
