Sami National day
Sami National day is celebrated on the 6th February throughout Norway. It recognises the first national Sami political gathering held in Trondheim in 1917. The 40,000 Sami people in Norway celebrate by proudly raising their national flag and singing the Song of the Sami People.
The birthday of Princess Ingrid Alexandra
The birthday of Princess Ingrid Alexandra, second in line to the throne, is celebrated throughout Norway on the 21st January. Born in 2004 she is the daughter of Crown Prince Haakon, first in line to the throne, and Crown Princess Mette-Marit. Her birthdays are celebrated throughout the Norwegian media and she counts His Majesty The King, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Fredrik of Denmark, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, and His Royal Highness Prince Felipe of Asturias as godparents, amongst others.

International student festival
ISFIT the international student festival in Trondheim attracts students from all over the world every other year to discuss social and political issues. International speakers attend and there are a number of concerts, art exhibitions and workshops to get involved in.
International film festival
Kosmorama the international film festival named after one of Trondheim’s first cinemas. It was founded in 2004 and based on the four principles; film, celebration, talent and technology. The programme generally includes film screenings, awards and seminars.
Trondheim Jazz Festival
Trondheim Jazz Festival is a six day event showcasing the best talent from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology’s Music Department. Its purpose is to bring high quality jazz and other similar musical styles to the public.
St Olav Festival
Olavsfestdagene the St Olav Festival celebrates King Olav Haraldsson who, while attempting to unite Norway and convert it to Christianity was killed in the battle of Stiklestad in 1030. The week long festivities include religious activities in the form of Church services, Prayer meetings, Organ recitals, pilgrim walks and vigils. Cultural offerings include classical and popular music concerts, a historical market selling handicrafts and providing entertainment, a jousting tournament and many more. There is also the opportunity to learn more about the history through academic lectures.
Trondheim Chamber Music Festival
Trondheim Chamber Music Festival. Established in 1996 this festival promotes classical music and with a large proportion of young performers and appeals to all ages. It consists of a combination of concerts, many free to the public, and workshops. The week ends with the final of a competition to find the best string quartet.
UKA festival
UKA festival is held every other year at Samfundet, Trondheim and is primarily a music festival although it offers cultural events such as theatre, art and stage shows. It was first held in 1917 by the students of Trondheim and lasts for three weeks.
