Vancouver - Places to Visit
Victory Square
A public park located in downtown Vancouver, Victory Square was the site of the old courthouse and is now the location of the towering Victory Square Cenotaph, a 30 foot high war memorial commemorating the fallen in World War I. It was unveiled in 1924 at this poignant location (it was at the foot of the stairs of the old courthouse that men signed up to fight in the War) and still sees wreaths banked high up the side of the monument.
top ↑Grouse Mountain
The “Peak of Vancouver” is reached via skyride, giving passengers the view of a lifetime over the city of Vancouver, the never ending Pacific Ocean and the imposing snow capped mountains. A general admission ticket allows holders to experience the theatre in the sky, a lumberjack show, the refuge for endangered animals and much more. During winter months skiing and snowboarding are offered and there is a fantastic range of dining options including the exclusive Observatory restaurant for those special occasions.
top ↑Capilano Suspension Bridge
Only a few minutes outside of downtown Vancouver is the city’s oldest attraction; the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Catch your breath as you walk across the narrow bridge over 200 feet above the Capilano River. Not for those scared of heights the 450 foot long bridge sways under foot. Reach the Treetops Adventure and take a walk amongst the tallest trees (some reaching 100 feet) in the forest over a series of seven further suspension bridges.
top ↑Stanley Park
Attracting millions of visitors, both residents and tourists alike, Stanley Park has been voted the 6th best park in North America by the Project for Public Spaces. Bordering the downtown area of Vancouver, Stanley Park has a wealth of outdoor attractions for visitors; its stunning scenery consists of half a million firs and cedar trees and there is a salmon demonstration stream, a totem pole visitor’s centre, tennis courts, children’s playgrounds and beautiful beaches suitable for sunbathing and swimming in the warmer months.
top ↑Christ Church Cathedral
Located in the heart of downtown Vancouver is the 110 year old Christ Church Cathedral, a place of worship of the Anglican Church of Canada. The historic church is built in the English Romanesque style and the grand lobby houses a fantastic collection of public art. The Cathedral’s main attraction is its 29 Gothic, stained glass windows featuring scenes from the New Testament. Tours can be arranged by contacting the Cathedral office directly and everyone is welcome at the church services.
top ↑Vancouver Lookout
With the most spectacular views over Vancouver and the surrounding countryside the Vancouver Lookout at Harbour Centre is a must see for all visitors to the city. The glass elevators whisk passengers up the 28 floors (430 feet), in just 40 seconds! The 360o panoramic view can be enjoyed as many times in one day as you like with a daily admission ticket. A revolving restaurant sits at the top of the tower and the bright lights of the city at night can be enjoyed over a fabulous meal.
